Layering
madness! Just couldn't stop.
Ok,
yes, I'm hooked on the clouds with pin lighting, drop shadows,
and bevel effects too.
Thinking
about the colors and textures of Cancun and Chichen-Itza.

Text
reads: "Looking
for a beautiful day.
It is
right before your eyes."
One
of the secrets of a beautiful collage/journal entry, is
to start with beautiful images. Not all of my photos are
great, but I don't give up on them. This image of poplars
lining a vineyard was taken on a rainy, gloomy day. After
some digital darkroom work, it turned into a tonally rich
image.

Original
photos of bright clouds, and flamingos taken in Punta Cuna.
I layered
their images onto a black bead shape to remember the beautiful
trip and the string of black beads I bought with friends
in an outdoor market.

Text reads: "Symphony of Light and Motion. My mind
moves with the shadows, and is lulled into stillness.

Text reads: "Wandering
on home from a day of hard labor. My family there to meet
me at the door. What will we eat I wonder, as I slip onto
the chair a tired man."
Thinking
about the birds looking for home, rest and food, the same
as my tired husband at the end of the work day.

Digital Image of the boardwalk taken the same time as "Pond,"

The
duck/water image taken from another shot, also done at the
same time.
Thinking
about more layering, richer colors, soft suggestions of

Text reads: "Soft is the evening light, shimmering on
the still water. Spring moment of contemplation."
Digital photo taken at dusk last week.

The background "paper" was made by making small
marks on a gray background, cropping it in a small square,
creating a pattern and filling the background.
The
"coins" were made by using the marquee tool to
crop a circle out of the water, pasting duplicates in place,
adding an outside bevel and drop shadow, deleting a small
circle at the top of each, and adding a squiggle to each
for "thread."

4.20.05 Morning

Text behind image: "Today I was thinking about mirror
images, and photographs that Ive taken. I thought Id
try one from two summers ago at Oak Knoll park, Clayton, MO.
The shots I took seemed mundane, but with the help of Photoshop
and the duotone filter, mirroring the image, I think it turned
out interesting enough for this purpose. I tried to print
out a tritone image for a beautiful sepia effect, but the
black didnt print, and the magenta totally overwhelms
the image. Too bad, so I decided to just post this online
as a digital image .jpg instead of a paper based journal entry.
Im inspired by all the images and techniques I see by
others on the journaling lists, but continue to judge and
constrain myself. The image should look finished
like a piece of artwork. Why else put so much time and material
effort into the thinking and creating? I need to stop doing
that and remember that any image processing is good for the
creative soul. Dont judge about the use of time or materials.
Just get lost in the creation, manipulation of ideas and resources.
Let loose a little! Don't worry about the product before
refining the technique, ideas, and process. Dont be
stuck by judgment. Worry instead of not working at all while
waiting for the best resolution of the opportunity at hand." |
